Say Hello to Progressive Web Apps, the Bridge Between Web and Mobile Apps

Before getting into the topic, let’s discuss about web application and native application. It was in 2014 when web applications became popular, thanks to HTML. Web Application is similar to a website, the only main difference between the two is that a web application focuses on user interaction.

Progressive Web APPS aka PWA are native plus web apps which offers better performance and leads to a better user engagement.

It is a fact that the mobile industry is on an all time boom, which has led to easy access to smartphones for everyone. Adding to this is the easy and cheap access to fast internet connections. Today, everyone owns a smartphone and has access to high-speed internet. This has led to a paradigm shift from desktops to smartphones for using internet.

Therefore, for being efficient in such an environment, in the year 2015, Google introduced PWA which allows the users to access to fast loading websites on their smartphones. PWA uses service workers who basically store the server of the PWA in the browser to the user and the system adds new feeds into it from time to time. This leads to more speedy websites which performs well on all platforms – be it desktops, smartphones, tablets, etc.

Below are the advantages of Progressive Web Apps:

1. Responsive layout for every device

Responsiveness is the demand that every website needs to fulfill. It basically means that a website fits itself according to the screen size of the gadget from which the website is accessed. No one performs this better than Progressive Web Apps (PWA).

2. Affordable

PWA are affordable in a sense that if you use PWA, you don’t have to develop different versions of a same website which would be compatible with different platforms. Thus, PWA helps you in reducing the cost of development.

3. No updates

Unlike the traditional apps, PWA don’t use the conventional installation process where the users are directed to Google Play Store or Apple App Store for downloading updates. Instead, PWA are smart enough to update themselves when the visitor accesses the website. Therefore, because of no conventional updates, it saves a lot of time of the visitors.

4. Push notifications

These refer to the short messages displayed to the users for informing them about different activities. These are common on native apps as well as web apps.

5. Less storage space

One of the biggest advantage of PWA is that it takes up less memory space, while the traditional native apps take up to 50 MB or more space in a smartphone, PWA version takes not more than 2 MB space on your smartphone.

6. Linkable

This means that the PWA are easy to share because of the URLs.

Now that I have stated the advantages of PWA for you, here is another happy news- Literally any website can be a progressive web app!

Here are the three criteria you need to consider for a PWA –

Your website should be running under HTTPS

You will require a web app manifest for your website

You will require a service worker

Putting in simple terms, PWA aka Progressive Web App is a general phrase which describes building websites with a futuristic approach to satisfy the following:

– Responsiveness

– App-like interactions

– Safe

– Fresh

– Discoverable

– Installable

– linkable

In other words, PWA are the new, better, and upgraded combinations of a website and a mobile app.

Health and Wellness Website Legalities

When Health Consulting Businesses are Legally Responsible

One thing the internet is infamous for is being a source of advice for our health and well-being.

It doesn’t matter where we turn there is someone with a website telling us what to do to lose weight, slow down ageing or treat our illnesses.

We all do it. We aren’t feeling well so we type our symptoms into “Dr. Google” and voila, thousands of results telling us we have everything from a common cold to 6 months to live. We then take our results in hand to our doctor and tell him what we have.

Sadly, professionals in the health care industry, doctors, therapists, dieticians and nutritionists all have an everyday fight with misinformation that is provided on the internet.

If you are a blogger and have some experience with health-related issues, you may want to share this information with the world.

Or, you may be a professional with some education on certain health-related subjects and want to use that information to boost your business online.

Either way, you have to be very careful to follow the rules when it comes to providing health and wellness website information and advice to the masses.

Legal Responsibilities for Providing Health-Related Advice

So what are the legal issues for health consulting and coaching businesses when providing health-related information on a website?

There have been more than a few lawsuits in past years that have stemmed from sharing of health and diet advice with others on the internet.

In a recent lawsuit in North Carolina, a blogger changed his life and had experience with managing his Type 1 diabetes through use of the Paleo diet. He blogged about his efforts and when successful, he took his blogging a step further and began to share his meal plans and exercise regimens.

Eventually, he began providing one on one sessions to advise his readers in the ways of his experience for a fee.

In North Carolina, there is a misdemeanor law that makes it unlawful to practice dietetics or nutrition without a license. This blogger was charged with breaking this law and North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition is now threatening him with prison.

Research All Governing Bodies’ Rules & Regulations

When providing health and wellness information online, you must ensure you are following all the rules.

Each governing body has separate rules on what information you can and cannot advise the public with regarding their health.

Canada and the United States both have specific federal laws and then each province and state also have their own separate laws.

If you are going to provide information, then you must look up those laws according to where you live and where you are doing business from. And to take it even a step further, you then you have to consider the audience you are targeting.

A good guideline to follow if you are providing information on your health-related website is to ask yourself, are you being specific to a particular personal health situation. The blogger in the North Carolina lawsuit was doing OK with providing his personal experiences with the Paleo diet.

His suggestions for exercise regimens or providing his personal diet plans on his health and nutrition website may even have been OK with the law but as soon as he started consulting one-on-one with individuals and providing advice, he was beyond sharing his personal experience and fell into the realm of providing medical expertise in an area where he was not legally certified to engage in.

Remember, giving your opinion about a health-related subject or telling about your specific experience is one thing but if you are claiming to be an expert in anything on your health and nutrition website, you could be held accountable by the boards who are responsible for governing the public education on the subject and run into legal issues.

You must not in any way claim or pose as something you are not if you are going to provide reliable health information.

If you are handing out health or wellness advice you need to be very clear about what your education and expertise are and also be very careful of the legal issues surrounding any advice you do give.

This is where working with a professional web development firm could help steer you in the right direction and ensure you are not posting anything that could cause you legal problems while operating your business. Consulting a lawyer who is well versed in these matters would also be very prudent.

Future of Web Development in the Year 2019

Trends in the web development field transform now and then. In around a decade web development industry has changed inside out. Whether it’s automated chat box, single page websites, or video backgrounds, 2019 brings you a new set of updates.

What sounds more convincing, a website built in a month or a website built in a year with some great features? I know your answer. In this article, we will take you through some of the most effective web development trends coming in 2019. These features will not only help you build an effective website, but it will also give you an overview of where your work needs an update.

Single Page Websites

Single Page Websites are one of the most useful features in the near future. Imagine, no navigation through pages, no messed up stuff, just a single page, and a navigation tool taking you through various parts of that page. Single page websites help you save time, fewer scrolls, and no page navigations. Short, crisp, and sweet.

Mobile First Indexing

Mobile First Indexing is a powerful feature focusing on the millennial generation. Mobile users are increasing rapidly across the globe, pushing down the number of desktop internet users. So before you start building your website, keep in mind to make your website mobile-friendly.

But what is mobile first indexing? It’s simple. The mobile version of your website becomes the starting point for Google index. If you observe a hike in traffic from the Google crawl bots, probably the traffic is from the mobile platform.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

AMP is an open source feature backed by Google. The major aspect of AMP is to speed up the process of how fast a data set can be displayed to the user. How long can you wait for a link to open after you click on it? Few seconds? AMP helps your website content to load faster and use data EIGHT times less than traditional ones.

Progressive Web Applications (PWA)

Progressive Web Applications introduced in the year 2015, is now one of the major features you must have in your web development kit. It gives your client a similar experience on phones as on desktops. You must have observed your computer browser displaying an application-like page, and progressive web applications do the same for the user. It enables the user to have the same experience on their mobiles.

Push Notifications

This feature can either make your site do wonders or blunders. Yes, I mean it when I say this. It can fetch you a lot more clients if used wisely, whereas on the other hand, push notifications can make you lose those clients at the same rate as well.
To make things happen through push notifications, you must understand the customer behavior. Push notification can make your website more engaging and unique. It creates an urge to explore in the user behavior and improves the client development process.

Chat Boxes and Customer Support

A research report says over 85% of client communications will happen through a machine on the business end by the year 2020. Chat box are the triumph of robots taking over humans. It helps you retain the client for long and solve their queries instantly.

7 Key Points You Should Know to Become A Mobile App Developer

Considering the surging demand for mobile app development, the growth in the aspirants interested in mobile app development is also accelerating. With that said, the few key things to factor in when launching your career as a mobile app developer include an insightful brain and an inventive vision.

However, it would be a misunderstanding to construe that only the aforesaid two things would be instrumental in turning you into a successful app developer. You also need to have consummate skills in mobile app development. You may be intrigued to learn what those potential skills could be. Let us take a look:

1] Bachelor’s degree in computer science- A degree in computer science, although not an essential requisite consistently, it can furnish you with a basis for the field yet a maximum number of companies these days demand at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science to recruit as a mobile app developer in their organizations.

• If possible for you, you can learn mobile application coding while being in an academic school.

• Acquiring other relevant degrees in the said field would be helpful in grabbing you the job. In fact, some schools offer degrees specifically in mobile app development.

2] Select a specific OS- Some most popular Operating Systems include Android, Apple, Windows, Symbian, and Blackberry. Although it is easy to learn coding of each of these platforms, yet it makes a better sense if you just focus on one when you are starting out.

• Android is at the helm of popularity these days, but Apple also does not lag behind in terms of popularity. You can select either of these platforms for a brilliant start.

3] Use online development programs – Taking help of Apple’s iOS Dev Center online, it is easy for you to have a look at tutorials and videos to help you begin to learn coding. Likewise, those with the penchant for Android, they also have the same development program online that imparts Android app Developers Training.

However, we do not strongly recommend you to focus on official streams exclusively but also you can choose several other websites across the World Wide Web that offer classes and tutorials free of cost, and pay that will help you to take to the next higher level.

4] Try taking marketing classes- Even while you are pursuing a degree course, you can take classes in a community college at lesser price rates or even take classes at brick and mortar institutes such as Praadis Training to brush up your marketing skills. If you tend to choose your own as an app developer, keep in mind that you will need to market your game to the public; otherwise, the public will never even come to know that it exists.

5] Also, take business classes – Similar to marketing skills, the role of business skills in building successful apps on your own is seminal. Business classes will help you most favorably on how to monetize the app and how to create perks for people to spend more.

6] Ensure importantly to test it for bugs – With new apps, the odds of having bugs is maximum, so do test your app. You can allow your friends to test it too to check where the bugs are so that it is feasible for you to address the issue. It will also help you know what works and what doesn’t work in an app.

• In simple words, prompt your friends to download the app on your mobile phone. While they play a game, make sure to see if they come across any glitches.

• Do not forget to obtain feedback on the mechanism and controlling features of the app. Question your buddies whether they encountered any issue working the controls and what problems did they encounter in the app.

7] Market and reap benefit from your app – If you are operating a business on your own, it directs to the fact that you must be conversant about its potential app very much. You must research on your own to discover ways to derive benefit from it.

Thereafter, you must market your app across a range of social media outlets.

• Many companies these days offer the app(s) free of cost as they start out the business, then after a certain period, they entail cost to make the game become faster or more fun, for example, offering packs of coins or stars. It is common for customers to come upon these kinds of perks in the game, albeit the packs are responsible for making the game move along more promptly for eager players, particularly if you set the pace of the game; this way so much can be carried out in a day without more of the in-game coinage.

• Include relevant keywords. When assigning a name of your app and profiling a description, just have a focus on what your target audience will be searching for. What relevant words would you use to look for your app? Just add the keywords in your title, description, or keywords and see the difference.

• Use in-app sharing. A great way for users to share is to discover ways to help one another in the game, such as being able to furnish other users with additional lives. If users are able to share on well-known and well-renowned social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter etc. you will be luckier with word-of-mouth.
Topping off

Maybe, the most engaging thing that you will rejoin in this career field is the level of flexibility it offers. Since it is still a fast evolving and state-of-the-art technology, there is nothing uninteresting about it. You can brush up your skills in mobile app development if you choose to undergo professional training courses such as Certified Android app development, iOS App Development and Blackberry app development from a reputable training institute. These institutes will deliver you practical experience via real projects. So if you have the penchant for learning mobile app development in a specific platform, search a reputable training institute and enroll in the training program without.

5 Things Your Business Website Should Have

1) A Call to Action. Your website visitors are on your website for a reason. Your website is a marketing tool to get website users to request more information, purchase a product, download an app, schedule a booking (or the 100s of other variations that allows you to profit in your business). You need to present a clear call to action, so your website visitors don’t leave your website and take their business to one of your competitors.

2) Responsive Design. Depending on your business, more than half of your website visitors could be coming from either mobile or tablet devices. You need to provide a good user experience for those users. There are quite a few technical parts to understand in how to create a responsive design. The basic idea is that you are formatting your website depending on the user’s browser/system and how the user contracts or expands your website.

3) Clear Contact Information. Even today, there are many websites that make it challenging to easily contact the business. Some of the largest businesses in the world actually do make it challenging for a user to contact them as a way to reduce customer support cost. Unless, your business has a monopoly, I would strongly suggest making some form of contact to your business easy. There are many different methods of contact such as email, web form, or live chat. So, there should be some way for a potential client or customer to contact your business 24/7.

4) A Secure Host and Website. You should make sure that your host is at secure data center with some options for back-ups of your website. You should also keep a local back-up of your website as well. One of the dangers of DIY website development or letting an amateur develop your website is that many security flaws can unintentionally be added to your website. We at Juno Digital Development have many years of web development and web security experience; if you have a currently operating website, we can test your website and fix any issues as a paid security consultant (contact us on our Contact Page for more information). Or, if you would like us to build a new website, we can make sure your website is not vulnerable to potentially devastating attacks such as SQL injection attacks.

5) Social Media Links. Social media is an excellent way to bring targeted users to your website. Through social media, one person liking your website could bring in hundreds or even thousands of new users if an item goes viral. Allowing your clients or customers to share the content of your website to their network through social media links is very important. Adding opportunities to like and share through platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Google+, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube and LinkedIn can be a great way to rapidly grow your business.

Preventing Website Stagnation and Stay Ahead of the Competition

You’ve created a great website, incorporating all your knowledge in the content and website traffic is booming. You’re a success and all the hard work you’ve done is now, seeming all worth it.

You leave your creation to continue its success but then… stagnation! You notice your website;

  • Stops receiving revisiting customers
  • Becomes reliant on new visitors to approach you
  • Starts lowering in search engine rankings
  • Had the perfect content and now it just doesn’t seem to be doing the trick

This is when you need to upgrade your website and we’re going to highlight changes you need to notice early and then contact web design experts to get your website back to where it deserves to be.

Search Engine’s algorithm changes

Algorithm changes are the most difficult to notice, search engine publishments are not advertised anywhere and they include subtle changes regarding their algorithm for ranking on keywords. As a consequence, your previous Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) plan may not conform and require a change, update or tweak to perform better. Look at your website, do the structure and layout require changing to conform to changes imposed by a search engine? Yes? Then it’s time to speak to an expert who can make your website SEO friendly.

Slow loading

One of the factors within a search engine’s algorithm is website speed, a slow load speed can be a sign of overloaded or incorrectly formatted content. Web designers are able to re-format content and designs for the page to load at optimal speed. Not only will a low site speed affect your SEO but research1 has seen that longer load times for visitors coincides with increased bounce rates (more detail provided below) and look towards a potential competitor.

Security

The longer a website has existed without platform updates and implementation of security features, the more it will have become vulnerable to security risks. “Hackers” find holes or gateways through security settings in specific types of websites and unfortunately these holes are exploited to access customer and financial details. You need to ensure your website is secure, as this will be important to any visitor to your site, especially if they are performing electronic transactions through your website.

Mobile friendly

Search engine publishments have highlighted that websites must be mobile friendly to rank higher, due to the ever-increasing reliance to search whilst on the move. It is essential that your website is user-friendly on mobiles whilst also having optimal site speed. Web designers utilise tools to produce a mobile friendly responsive design for mobile users and maintain your search engine ranking.

High bounce rate

Can you see that the volume of visitors is consistent however engagement with your content is significantly decreasing? Then it’s time for an update across all your website’s features, you need to look at the content, design and structure to identify possibilities for new and interesting content and the presentation of that content to new and returning customers.

Not capturing sales leads

Any site providing a product or service will have a reliance on new sales leads being captured through their website. You must then identify why this has occurred, such as; old content, difficult user-experience or a lack of progression in marketing the products/services. Look at what features you need to enhance your website and make sure you act quick.

Four Web Design Tips for Better Conversion

Your website’s design is a large factor when it comes to conversion. It doesn’t matter how amazing your online ads are, or how well managed your social media pages are. If your website is where all the transaction action is to take place, an ill-designed site means kissing conversion goodbye.

So how can you make sure your website is designed in the best possible way to ensure more conversions? Here are some tips.

1. Limit Navigational Choices

As counter-intuitive as it may initially appear, limiting choices is actually a better step to take, particularly when offering your customer with navigational menu options.

According to a study, when customers are presented with more choices, not only does this lengthen the decision-making time, but it lessens the chances of the user actually picking an option. What works better is presenting them with just enough options to provide variety or at least provide the necessary segmenting of more specific options.

Avoid overwhelming your website visitor with twenty or so specific options and put them into groups instead. Not only does it make your site less cluttered-looking, but the user will have an easier time deciding where to go as well.

2. Heed the Speed

One major factor that affects a user’s decision as to whether they’ll give your website a chance or not is its loading speed, so making sure it’s efficient is something you mustn’t overlook.

With a reported 7% deduction in conversion per every second of delay, you can see how vital a quick loading time is. Constantly testing your site’s loading time through different methods and tools, such as Google’s Page Speed Tools can help you prevent losing customers due to a slow site.

3. Simplicity is Key

Similar to providing a simpler array of choices in navigation, the website’s pages themselves would do good to be kept as simple as possible.

This doesn’t mean not adding certain touches to spice things up, but rather maintain a minimalist approach to how much information, images, and material you put into a single page.

If your site is more on what your products or services are about, especially, keeping things simple and clean makes it easier for the user to understand, and more importantly, makes sure they don’t get intimidated by a grand overload of images, videos, and text to process.

4. Learn from Experience

Different things work for different websites, and while some tips may work out (and should work out based on other websites’ experience), it’s not an automatic assurance for every site.

This is why investing in constant monitoring of your site’s performance is an essential part of your website’s development. If you find that somehow lots of material works for your site, then go ahead and apply that, or if you find that providing more choices gains more clicks, then go with that.

Switching things up every now and again and seeing how that works out and which improvements can boost conversions is also vital.

With all of that, it’s evident how maximizing your website’s design for better conversions isn’t a one-shot thing; it requires constant monitoring and updates, and more importantly, it requires a mindset that successful web design is an ongoing process, no matter how new or established your business website is.

Guarantee Better Conversion Results By Properly Developing Landing Pages

More traffic? Not the solution.

There was a period of my life where all I thought about was finding more methods to bring more traffic to my website. I already had traffic, and fact is I was not paying attention to it. All I had in my mind was: ‘if I get more traffic I will make more money’. After a lot of research, I found some information regarding the importance of landing pages. After analyzing and studying the information thoroughly, I learned my lesson. I jumped immediately to my landing page and apply the information I learned. I have to tell you: I was very angry with myself. I had the need to solve the problem, so I did even more research on how to design landing pages properly. The idea was to improve it so I can get better conversions. Let me tell you, it worked. Today, I’m going to share with you what I learned, so you can apply the advice to your landing page and get better conversions:

Fatal mistakes that you can and should avoid:

1) Be very clear.

When you insert a lot of links on your sales page, potential clients get confused. Fact is, it can really leave them very disorganized. What you are doing with this, is that you’re giving them too many choices, and that’s not what you need, what you need is to give them only one choice.

2) Design Disaster.

Have you heard that the first impression is what counts? Well, it’s true. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the internet or in the real world. Actually, in the internet visitor can get that first impression even faster, in less than a second. Think about it, that’s not too much time to woo them right? This is why you have to avoid using what is known as overly colorful choices of design on your website, this will only distract and even damaging your possible client.

3) Reputation.

If your business is new and you are building your brand, you need to start earning the trust of your visitors. This, if you want to establish a business relationship with them. Using testimonials from recognized people is a very excellent method to build this reputation to your company.

4) Information Overload.

Please don’t squeeze a lot of information in your landing page. I mean, yes it’s good to provide as much detail to you possible clients about the product or service you’re offering, but there’s a limit. Those huge boring wall of text end in nothing but in failure, so please avoid that. Visitors tend to be turned off when there’s too much to read. They’ll think at least half of what you wrote on the landing page is bullshit, thus they will just leave your site.

5) Form Filling.

Sometimes it’s OK to gather additional information from visitors by using forms, but there’s a limit. You can really tell when a form has too many fields to fill. The limit is when the user has to scroll down to continue filling the form. Visitors don’t like this, it actually bores them, so please be very precise when requesting information, don’t request more of what you really need.

Ensuring That Your Website Is Interactive

Many businesses have websites that are stiff and unchanging. Those websites “talk at” the target audience. There is no interaction that occurs and there is no human contact that is established. It is important to understand that there is a vast difference between a website that doesn’t change or move and one that is constantly evolving and that has the capability to encourage discussions.

It is all about the engagement
The concept of a static website is pretty old school. For a very long time (and it was a challenge to even get business owners to recognize the need for a website at all), website pages were built and they remained exactly as until the end of time. The concept of having a website that changes, evolves, promotes interaction, etc., was positively unheard of.

When it comes to engaging with your target audience, you should always think in terms of being on equal footing with the other person. That means that the other person’s thoughts, feelings, opinions, etc., are just as valuable as yours. It is human nature to want to feel as though everyone’s opinions are important. The truth is that those opinions are important, even if you don’t happen to agree with all of them.

If you promote interaction through your website, the result will be that your traffic will increase and more and more people will pay attention to what you have to say and to the discussions that you have with other people. At this point, you may be wondering why it is so important to have an interactive website.

  • You don’t want to take over the discussion, you want to be an important part of it: The role that you play in this case is one of leadership. If you are thinking that you can control what is being discussed to any great degree, you should remove that from your thoughts. However, you certainly can drive the discussion and steer it in a certain direction. The other thing that you need to understand is that the discussion will not stay on a straight path (nor would you want it to do that). It will branch off in many interesting, different directions. However, it is your job to make sure that the discussion doesn’t stray so far from the path that you lose the original concept completely.
  • Persuade your target audience to choose the actions that you wish them to choose: If your content is sound and compelling, it will produce the results that you are hoping for. The objective of your content is to connect with the other person on an emotional level. If you achieve that, the rest of the pieces will fall into place. As you are building your website (or having it built), you should keep in mind the objectives that you want to reach once that website is finished and you start to interact with people. The content that you have on your website should be thought-provoking and it will hopefully encourage people to leave comments, questions, etc., so that discussions can begin and will only become more and more interesting and more and more valuable. It is important to remember that you are interacting with human beings. They have their own way of thinking and your interactions will be large contributors to those discussions and the direction that those discussions ultimately take. Remember that you are not the only person who should get something out of the interaction. The other person should benefit just as much.
  • Always keep in mind that the other person has free will: It is critical that you remember that the other person doesn’t have to continue to interact with you. He or she chooses to do so. If the interactions go well, the next step (after the appropriate amount of time) will be to interact on a one-to-one basis, either online or in person. However, you should also be prepared for the possibility that they may take advantage of whatever incentives you are offering before they start to interact with you on a more personal level (blog, newsletter, white paper, eBook, etc.). It is important for you to keep in mind that taking advantage of what you are offering is another legitimate way to get to know you and your brand more thoroughly.

Conclusion
A static website will not do very much for you as far as bringing in new traffic is concerned. It also may create a perception in the mind of the other person, a perception that says that you don’t care enough about your business to involve other people. Static websites are a thing of the past (or, at least, they should be). If you want to engage your target audience members, you need to be able to interact with them in some way. It is that simple.

Interactive websites, on the other hand, give other people the distinct impression that you value their contribution and you value what they think. An interactive website captivates the other person and there is no doubt that it is far more interesting than a static website. Why would anyone want to visit a dull website when they can visit one that is compelling and exciting, not to mention educational and valuable at the same time?
